PEDRO E. ORTIZ ALVAREZ, Esq.

Born in San Germán, Puerto Rico in 1951, Pedro E. Ortiz Álvarez graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, and Harvard University with the highest academic honors.  

 

Mr. Ortiz Álvarez has contributed robustly to the legal profession in Puerto Rico since his graduation from Harvard in 1975.  From his historic downtown Ponce office, Mr. Ortiz Álvarez represents both local and international clients and directs a diverse litigation practice before the Commonwealth and Federal Courts.  He has long occupied the position of Professor of Constitutional Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and has also been a law professor at the University of Puerto Rico and the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.  Mr. Ortiz Álvarez has authored various articles on law and jurisprudence and has been invited to lecture on legal, educational and political topics at important institutions dedicated to education and public discussion in the United States, Latin America and Puerto Rico.  

Mr. Ortiz Álvarez has held a number of important positions in government, politics, education and the private sector, including Dean of the School of Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Secretary of Consumer Affairs, President of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Maritime Shipping Authority, and Electoral Commissioner for the Popular Democratic Party.  He has also served as a member of the Civil Rights Commission, the Governing Board of the Water and Sewer Authority, the Council for Higher Education, the Financial Board of Puerto Rico and the Board of Directors of various private companies.

 

Mr. Ortiz Álvarez and his wife, Mrs. Ina Cortés de Ortiz, have three children, Pedro Ramon, Ramon Enrique and Pierina.
